Local houses in Hoang Su Phi are located on a high hill to keep the fresh air inside despite the hot climate in Vietnam in summer. In the day, people work very hard, the children study at school but when they are back to home, they still have to help their parents to do lots of work. The area is very calm and quiet. When the sun comes down, everyone gathers at home and have a good meal with a few small glasses of rice alcohol.

How many days should be spent at Hoang Su Phi?
It totally depends on your time budget. However, you should stay at least 3 days to explore this area. There are different routes for your treks in Ban Phung, Ban Luoc, Thong Nguyen…However, most travelers love trekking from Thong Nguyen with the day routes from Nam Hong, Nam Khoa, Nam Nghi…that you can do a day-trek or 2 to 5 days-trek.
The distances of day treks are from 12km to 15km passing one to 2 villages and take about 6 hours trekking. If there are many sun's rays, the green colors of the rice terraces can be highlighted. It could not be more splendid and beautiful. The arrival at the top of the road allows you to have a magnificent view of all area.
After the trek, you will have overnights at homestay which are owned by local ethnic minorities. Few glasses of rice wine can be a memory to finish your stay in Hoang Su Phi. It is not only about wine or being drunk, but it is more about sharing the feeling of being together happily in the house and beautiful place.
