"A new pedestrian area" around Hoan Kiem Lake

There will be a large space around Hoang Kiem Lake with many interesting street art shows, community events, free wifi and bar and restaurants now are allowed to open until 2 am.

From August 28^th, there are free wifi at some places around Hoan Kiem Lake. VNPT Hanoi continues to install more Wifi hotspots.

The locals and tourists now can connect free internet from their smartphones by turn on searching wifi mode and choose the hotspot of “Freewifi_UBNDHANOI”. After about 10 second, an introduction banner of the walking street and logo of wifi sponsor are showed up, we are successful to connect. The time for free wifi connection is 30 minutes, then you will be log out automatically. If you want to re-connect, just re-follow the above steps.

According to the statistics, the number of tourists increases twice at every weekend. On the weekday, there are about 3000 foreign tourists staying in the old quarter, but it is double increase at the weekend with about 6000.  

Ms. Sarah Baldwin (from UK) highly appraise the idea of pedestrian area expansion, because it is vey crowded during the week, some times, it is dangerous. If there is a pedestrian area around the lake, she can both enjoy walking and scenery without worrying the traffic.

If there are more walking streets in Hanoi, he and his friends will stay longer here.

Bars and restaurants to open until 2 am.

Currently, the capital authority is only allowing commercial provision to open until midnight based on the regulations of cultural activities and commercial provision of public cultural services. All art, fashion shows and bars must be closed after 12 am until 08 am.

However, in order to be attractive in tourism, Hanoi People’s Committee has decided to pilot project to accept restaurants and bars in Hoan Kiem district to open after midnight in 3 day weekend since September 1^st.
