Mount Kinabalu is the highest peak in Southeast Asia. It rises to 4095 m. It is located north of Borneo, in the state of Sabah. It is located inside Kinabalu National Park. Hiking on Mount Kinabalu is one of the activities not to be missed during a trip to Malaysia. It is managed by a private company named: Sutera Sanctuary Lodges. To climb the mountain, you have to go through this company because it is she who takes care of the accommodation in the park. Moreover, it is this company that organizes every year the climbathlon on Kinabalu and is the race the most difficult mountain race in the world. For a hike on Kinabalu, you must book several days or even a month in advance. In fact, access is limited to 120 people per day and yet the list of participants does not end. The reservation is done by internet and the price to pay includes the license to climb, the insurance, the accommodation and the meals.

The ascent of Mount Kinabalu is done in two days. The camp for those who wish to hike and have booked is a 2-hour taxi ride from Kota Kinabalu Airport. From this camp, we have the opportunity to join either "Timpohon Trail" or "Mesilau Trail" to start the first part of the ascent. This first part consists of joining the Laban Rata refuge which is located 3272 m from the starting point. The path leading to this refuge passes through forests of oaks, chestnut and a subalpine forest where there is a variety of orchids. After a night spent in the shelter, the climb continues very early in the morning to reach the summit which rises to 4095 m and enjoy the sunrise. After enjoying this wonderful experience, it's time to head back to the Laban Rata Rest House for breakfast and then return to the Timpohon Trail or Mesilau Trail.
